Onam 2026 — A Grand Celebration of Kerala's Harvest

About Onam
Onam is the crown jewel of MMA's event calendar. This grand celebration of Kerala's harvest festival brings the entire community together for a day that feels like home. If you attend one MMA event all year, make it this one.
What Makes Onam Special
Onam celebrates the mythical homecoming of King Mahabali, a time when all of Kerala comes together in unity, generosity, and joy. For Malayalees in Minnesota, it's the closest thing to being back home during the season.
Event Highlights
- Traditional Onasadya served on banana leaves
- Pookalam (flower carpet) competition
- Thiruvathira and other classical dance performances
- Live music and cultural showcases
- Tug-of-war, musical chairs, and traditional Kerala games
- Kids' activities and entertainment
- Community awards and recognition
How You Can Help
Onam is a community effort. We need volunteers for Onasadya preparation, pookalam setup, stage coordination, and event logistics. If you'd like to help, reach out to the board or sign up when volunteer registration opens.
What to Wear
Traditional attire is encouraged. Kasavu sarees, mundus, and festive Kerala wear make the day even more special.
